APPLICATION ENGINEERPERSONAL PORTFOLIO / 2026

I build useful things.
Then I figure out why they work.

Applications, networks, and the details in between. Learning by building. Getting better by measuring.

01 / SELECTED WORK

Ideas into
working things.

Infrastructure I run. Products I’m building. A few good problems worth solving.

01 / InfrastructureRunning

Home network lab

A home network I operate, measure, and improve. Private DNS resolution, remote access, and performance collection—with the debugging notes to go with them.

Wonderfully Made

A pregnancy companion built around the moments that matter: weekly milestones, appointments, memories, and a shared space for family. Continuing to improve the web experience, with an App Store release as a future goal.

FLT DocFlow

Exploring how freight businesses can reduce document entry and paper handling. Building toward a workflow for uploading bills, reviewing extracted shipment data, and keeping records organized.

02 / THE HOME LAB

Less guessing.
More packets.

Real infrastructure, used every day. These are reported lab results and configuration notes, not a live dashboard.

DNS filtering + DHCP

Whole-house filtering with 325k domains on the blocklist.

02

Unbound

Recursive DNS + DNSSEC

A local validating resolver that removes dependence on a third-party recursive DNS provider.

RUNNING
03

WireGuard

Two tunnels + dynamic DNS

Remote access with DNS filtering that follows my devices onto cellular.

04

Speedtest collector

A measurement every 30 minutes

A continuous record of connection performance to investigate changes over time.

FIELD NOTES

Found by
measuring.

The interesting part wasn’t installing the services. It was finding what the first explanation missed.

OBSERVATION

Devices were still reaching unfiltered DNS despite the DHCP configuration.

FINDING

Hosts were taking DNS from IPv6 router advertisements rather than DHCP. Closing that path brought filtering back into the intended flow.

Check every address family, not just the configuration you changed.

03 / THE PERSON BEHIND THE PROJECTS

Curious by default.
Consistent by choice.

I’m Brock, an Application Engineer at Clip Automation.

I like the space where software meets the real world: understanding a system, finding the friction, and making it more useful for the people relying on it.

Outside the screen, I’m into fitness and getting outdoors. The mindset carries over: learn the fundamentals, put in the reps, and keep improving.
